Summer Jam ’85 at Day on the Green

Bill Graham’s Day on the Green concerts turned Oakland Coliseum into one of California’s defining live-music destinations. The August 31, 1985 show brought together Scorpions, Ratt, Y&T, Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force and Victory for an all-day stadium event.

For Metallica, it was an early stadium appearance during the Ride the Lightning era. For thousands of fans, it was a day of ringing ears, packed stands and the kind of lineup that now reads like a time capsule of mid-’80s metal.
