On July 13, 1985, Live Aid linked Wembley Stadium in London with JFK Stadium in Philadelphia for a landmark benefit concert created to raise money for famine relief in Africa.
Led by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the event became a defining moment of 1980s music culture: major artists performed across the Atlantic while television and satellite links carried the show around the world.
Wembley Stadium’s own anniversary archive describes Live Aid as roughly 16 hours of live music, broadcast to more than one billion people in 110 countries, with over £100 million raised for the cause.
